As Above, So Below, Aquarius Season & Beyond
I normally hold my monthly group Somatic Breathwork sessions on the last Sunday of the month but I chose to do it on Saturday, and it really worked out because, like other regions of Canada and the US. Toronto had quite the snow storm on Sunday.
It feels good to see some sun today, as I write this.
Astrologically, the Sun, the centre of self, the ego and the will, has entered Aquarius, the 11th sign and the 11th stage of our evolution.
While “the water bearer” is often confused as a water sign, Aquarius is the element of air - the glyph appears as waves. Aquarius pours the currents of higher consciousness over humanity.
Operating from the higher chakras, the gift of objective, detached observation offers a higher view for humanity.
This is the new paradigm of astrological insight - rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors and predecessors. “Grounded on the foundation of As Above, So Below, As Within, So Without; committed to the fullest expression of life, recognizing and celebrating the union between Soul and Sprit, between Land and Sky, between Feminine and Masculine, between Body and Mind, and between Shadow and Light.”
Where Capricorn, the sign and stage before, builds laws, rules and structures, Aquarius is where we evaluate the rules that govern our groups, our communities and society.
Do all the governing rules, laws and structures serve the best interest of all - does it serve the unity of humanity?
“Does it serve personal freedom rather than protecting those that they serve?”
Air is idea oriented. It is intellectual and philosophical. The Aquarius need to create social change breaks up illusions and disrupts structures that don’t support equality and preserves those that do.
In addition to the sun, transiting planets Mercury, Venus and Mars are also moving through Aquarius, initially meeting Pluto at the early degrees. At the threshold.
Mercury. The mind and mind frame. Cognition. Communication. How we speak, think, learn and reason.
Venus. The feminine principle within everyone. The urge to relate and connect. Yin. Harmony. The capacity to attract what is loved and valued.
Mars. The masculine principle within everyone. The urge and capacity to act, to be assertive, the need to survive and challenge.
Pluto. The urge to change and evolve. Our capacity to transform and renew. Pluto informs your psychology around power and control.
Planets in transit, when meeting the Sun in close proximity, are hidden—temporarily under the Sun’s beams— a kineasthetic, felt reality invoking a psychological descent for transformation and metamorphosis.
Where do these placements show up in your natal chart and which area of life is currently being activated?
Meetings with Pluto by transit, or even natally, force us to confront our deepest fears, we meet ourselves here, our shadow, where we explore power dynamics and control.
Where are we holding unexamined beliefs, fears, stories that are quietly running the show but we’re not aware of?
Recently I enrolled in a six week workshop that explored Jungian concepts. We explored the topic of “projections” and the significant growth and liberation that occurs when one can take back what is externalized. A classic Jungian quotes reads: “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate”
We must change to evolve. Something must die off to meet the highest expression of Aquarius.
Pluto will be in Aquarius for 20 years. This is where we witness generational change. In addition to Pluto, generational planets Uranus - the urge for liberation, the disruptor and awakener, and Neptune - our capacity to transcend the infinite self through union with the larger whole are also entering new signs. This is a significant turning point.
These transits show us opportunity for growth, opportunity to co-create, to be an active participant with all of life - in a world where nothing really separates us.
What is stirring inside of you - what is awakening in your psyche and how will you work with these themes and the current quality of time?
I’d love to hear your reflections. if you’re seeking clarity or guidance around these transits, I’m also available for consultations for those wanting to go deeper.
